The Lead Linux Administrator
Responsible for managing and maintaining Linux and open operating systems within the Network and Systems group at a secure and stable level while maximizing availability and access for applications, application developers, college staff, students, and interoperability with other computer systems.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Defines Linux OS standard configurations for use in mission critical systems
Manages the security configuration of Linux systems
Tracks vulnerabilities and apply appropriate patches and upgrades
Writes scripts to automate multiple administrative tasks
Develops and tests system recovery plans
Develops and maintains capacity plans for all systems
Monitors and troubleshoots system performance
Installs, configures, and documents new servers and applications
Maintains and audits system security configuration and logs
Responds rapidly to system maintenance needs, including on weekends and evenings
Works with the System team to develop system administration operations documentation
Oversees and manages the installation of software tools providing systems level monitoring
Assists and participates in disaster recovery procedures and operations
Provides third-tier support to programming and campus network services staff, as well as, tests and evaluates software products.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors degree in related field and eight (8) years of related experience
All educational degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with management , development teams and system administrators
Possess experience in administering Linux systems in a complex environment
Possess experience with Perl
Possess experience with backup, recovery, monitoring and tuning of Linux systems
Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Possess superior organizational skills
Ability to adapt to rapidly changing technologies
Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as needed
