The primary objective of the BI/DBA is to support the development and maintenance of the corporate SQL Server and Oracle databases, as well as the BI Data Warehouse to help ensure data integrity, security, retention, and recoverability of the data. The BI/DBA works closely with the BI and Application Development teams to support the application development lifecycle following defined standards and best practices.
Under the direction of their manager, the BI/DBA will design, develop, build, test, and deploy quality database solutions that are consistent with project objectives, database architecture standards and departmental best practices. The BI/DBA will administer enterprise-wide data architecture and provide daily management of corporate databases.
When not performing database administration duties, this role will actively assist the BI and .Net Developers in the development of critical reports and web applications for the business. This may involve the use of various ad hoc reporting tools or be accomplished with native SQL and PL/SQL scripts. The BI/DBA will also assist with testing and analysis tasks as appropriate.
Principle Accountabilities & Responsibilities :
1. Assist in the development of data models, both normalized and dimensional structures using proper techniques/standards. Work with the development teams to create and maintain physical data structures based on logical models.
2. Collaborate with business end-users, developers and management to come up with proper database design based on business requirements
3. Serve as a consultant to application developers to provide expertise on database access paths, configuration, capabilities and constraints
4. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve database problems and coordinate with external support from vendors and company IS internal resources when necessary
5. Assist in resolving data integrity, security management and configuration issues
6. Maintain technical & training documentation
7. Work with technical support teams to design, implement and support database disaster recovery plans
8. Responsible for documenting processes by which data moves between production systems and databases to facilitate reporting needs
Experience, Knowledge & Skills Requirements :
1. +4 Years – Experience in Oracle RDBMS (10g and 11g) and SQL Server (2008R2 and 2012) databases administration
2. +4 Scripting: T-SQL, PL/SQL
3. +3 Years – Databases Backup/Recovery Strategy
4. Familiarity with network operating systems (Microsoft Windows and HP-UX)
5. Understanding of or experience supporting .NET applications that interact with database solutions
6. Understanding of or experience with virtual environments
7. Good interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
8. Ability to work independent of direct supervision
9. Ability to work extended hours as needed
10. Wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
11. Knowledge of toolsets including Microsoft SSIS, SSAS and SSRS a plus
12. Experience with SAP Business Objects BI tools a plus
Academic Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or 6+ years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
