Sr.Geologist
Upstream Americas searches for and recovers oil and natural gas across the Americas. Many of these activities are carried out as joint venture partnerships, including with national oil companies. The business is organized into four major business units along key resource development lines, which includes Deep Water, Exploration and Commercial, Heavy Oil, and Onshore Gas. Upstream Americas includes our oil sands operations, which extracts bitumen from oil sands and converts it to synthetic crudes. Our wind power business is also part of this organization. Upstream Americas puts safety, sustainability, the global search for viable new energy sources and innovative technologies at the heart of how we do business. Exploration and Commercial is accountable for exploration, commercial activities, new business development, hydrocarbon maturation, governance of Joint Ventures for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), wind operations and governance of South American mid-stream assets.
In this position you will be responsible for providing regional, block, and prospect specific evaluation through the integration of all data sources. You will also be responsible for providing recommendations for bid proposals, well proposals, or farm-in proposals based on a synthesis of the integrated geologic, geophysical data, and engineering data.
Responsibilities:
• Providing advice on basin and play prospectivity
• Working from the regional scale to prospect scale to identify new plays and exploration concepts, grounded by producing field analogs
• Prospect generation and evaluation, including interpretation of 2D/3D seismic data to produce maps, and maturation of these prospects to AFE status for drilling
• Integrating play analysis and prosecution into the evaluation and exploration of a project
• Preparation of auditable volumes and risking for leads and prospects according to Shell methodology
• Participating in peer review, partner’s meetings, etc.
• Sharing knowledge and engaging with colleagues in teams and regions

• Maintaining awareness of technology developments (internal and external) and deploying fit-for-purpose new technology
•
• Maintaining and appling updated awareness of competitor activities (successes and failures) to our understanding of petroleum systems
Requirements:
• 10+ years of relevant experience
• Masters degree in Geology or a related discipline
• Experience in Latin America plays is highly preferred
• Strong geologic and geophysical skills proven in various stratigraphic and structural settings
• Strong workstation skills and ability to provide quality 2D and 3D interpretations
• An in-depth knowledge of depositional systems
• Ability to evaluate and integrate hydrocarbon charge studies
• Ability work in an integrated team environment communicate effectively across disciplines
• Strong communication skills both verbal and written (additional fluency in Spanish is preferred)
