POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Provides technical analysis in data Network planning, Engineering, and design at a senior level. Works independently with business groups to develop solutions.
o Maintains technical expertise in all areas of Network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, switches, VoIP, TDM Telephony, Security, etc.
o Coordinates maintenance for Network equipment and troubleshoots problems with department users.
o May develop uniform operation procedures for Network (LAN) and wide area Network (WAN) hardware and software and communicates these procedures independently.
o Works problems and situations without supervision – expected to use senior level judgment in decisionmaking.
o Evaluates LAN/WAN hardware and software requirements and capabilities related to user needs, and makes recommendations for purchase and implementation.
o Establishes and documents standards for Network architecture, and plans and coordinates total Network integration independently.
o Coordinates installation of required hardware. Installs application software programs on LAN or WAN
o Maintains technical expertise in all areas of Network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, switches, VPN & Mail gateways, etc.
o May formulate programming and configuration system changes for software applications to facilitate Network system capability
o Provides software and hardware familiarization overview with users
o Coordinates third-party maintenance for Network equipment and troubleshoots problems with department users and department LAN/WAN administrators
o Define and implement processes, procedures and tools to ensure departmental efficiency, including implementation of self-service where appropriate
o Maintain and configuration of new monitoring and support initiatives
EDUCATION:
Technical trade schooling recommended.
Advanced Networking certifications (Checkpoint, Cisco, Juniper, F5 Networks) highly recommended.
Project management instruction required.
EXPERIENCE: Senior Network Engineers are required to have at least 7 years of experience in the following areas – configuration and management of advanced enterprise networking hardware including routers, switches, voice over IP telephony, wireless infrastructure, firewalls and internet proxy devices. Experience must be current – last position required to be network administration/configuration/management related.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Must be able to work without supervision.
Must be able to travel.
Must be able to act independently and be responsible for managing and delivering infrastructure projects.
Must have knowledge of networking protocols to include advanced routing (BGP, EIGRP, OSPF) and switching (Cisco proprietary protocols and network standard protocols including spanning-tree, trunking protocol, MPLS.) and be able to work in a real time environment with excellent troubleshooting skills.
