Senior Database Administrator
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Own the major tasks as assigned to the Database team by its customers, reporting its progress to the rest of IT and keeping management informed of any road blocks or resource issues that may impede the progress of such tasks.
Perform day-to-day Database Administrator functions as assigned. Functions include but are not limited to: systems analysis, database test, design, installation and documentation. Monitor database system performance and configuration management.
Add technical experience related influence to future database solutions. He/she will be expected to participate and add value to the backup and disaster recovery solutions.
Introduce best practices as researched independently by participating in professional fairs and technical seminars.
Perform other job related functions as assigned.
NATURE AND SCOPE
This position will report directly to the Director of Database Administration systems. This position will need to handle situations where attention to detail will be critical and where quick and rational decisions will be necessary. The Database Administrator will therefore be expected to suggest sound technical solutions so that business challenges can be met and solved with efficient use of time and resources. He/she will be expected to give clear and accurate status reports up to senior management in a professional demeanor.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s (Master’s preferred) Degree in a technical field such as computer science, MIS, math or related; plus relevant experience. Oracle and/or MS SQL server certification preferred but not required.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 10+ years database administration experience. Solid experience administrating Oracle up to the latest versions and possibly MS SQL server databases in very large database production environments. Experience in software development in the area of data manipulation and migration strongly preferred. Software Development experience in any capacity preferred.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: General knowledge of automation scripting (perl, Unix Shells scripts, DOS scripts, etc.) Knowledge of ancillary Oracle tools such as Quest’s TOAD, Footlight, Confio Ignite, etc. Good analytical skills and ability to clearly and effectively present ideas to peers and supervisors. Good written and oral communication skills to work with team members at all levels. Thorough knowledge of Oracle RDBMS internals. Knowledge of Oracle RDBMS in their earlier versions. Strong critical thinking and leadership skills are required. Ability to provide forward thinking and technical leadership to the rest of the team. 24/7 support for mission critical systems.
