Role Summary
This position is for a Backup and Recovery Administrator focused on the monitoring and administration of enterprise-class, backup and recovery systems (BRS) leveraging Commvault Simpana position is hours is 5PM-2AM
This position requires the highest professionalism, communication abilities, and strong technical skills. Professionally deliver enterprise BRS solutions, assessments, and service delivery to various levels of organizations ranging from engineers to senior management. ITS is company’s infrastructure management and support group charged with meeting the company’s hosting, managed services, and infrastructure project needs.
Under the direction of the ITS Technical Services Manager, the successful candidate will work with product development delivery managers, ITS delivery/project managers, and ITS engineers to: maintain ITS backup services, support ITS monitoring and administer ITS backups for infrastructure and solutions; prioritize tasks; remove impediments; and meet project commitments.
Responsibilities:
Project Planning and Administration:
Maintain, administer, and monitor support of the data protection environment
Support strategy for backup frequency, type, and retention based upon SLO
Advise and troubleshoot technologies for Backup and Recovery products
Conduct data protection reviews and ensure compliance with best practices
Support the operations with any issues related to the operation of backups, archiving, and job management
Support the clients with any issues related to the operation of backups.
Configure or modify data protection as needed to support requests by clients
Create detailed change or incident documentation regarding the operation and configuration of all related data protection components in a ticket-based system
Report to management on overall health and operations of the data storage backup environment, and prepare monthly reports for management regarding backup operations
Point of escalation for user support, research and resolve application issues
Formal Education & Certification:
University degree or college diploma computer science.
CommVault certifications preferred.
Knowledge & Experience:
1-3 years of experience in an Enterprise Environment, using Commvault
BS in computer science and 4 years of experience in a enterprise environment
Experience installing and configuring SAN attached enterprise tape backup systems
Backup and recovery tuning and performance measurement/reporting
Experience integrating enterprise backup solutions with MS SQL Server, MS Exchange, etc.
Must have a broad-based technical knowledge in backup solutions, host systems, networks, applications, data, and security, with deep knowledge in at least one.
Must have the ability and experience in developing strategies based on the “big picture” that emphasize delivering the performance, capacity, and availability necessary to run the business.
Proven experience implementing new IT infrastructures; i.e., backup systems/solutions (new operating systems, new hardware platforms, new components that offer additional capability.
